What to expect at an STI test
An STI test at OIC Inspired is short and private. You check in, give the samples that fit your situation (urine, blood, swabs), and leave knowing when to expect results. Your HIV result is ready the same visit. Other results take 2 to 7 days and arrive through the patient portal. Treatment starts on site when possible.
Step 1: Check in
Walk in or call ahead. We ask for your name when you arrive. Everything you share is confidential, and the visit is without judgment.
Free HIV and STI testing is open to everyone. The free walk-in test covers HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and hepatitis B and C. If you want to see a provider too, we may ask for insurance information at that point.
Step 2: Samples
A blood test alone is not enough for a full STI screening. Some infections need other methods to be found accurately.
- Urine: detects infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhea.
- Blood: detects infections such as HIV, syphilis and hepatitis.
- Oral swab: finds infections in the throat, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea.
- Rectal swab: finds infections in the rectum, especially for people who have anal sex.
Oral and rectal swabs are part of the free walk-in testing. Our team collects them. You do not need to know which samples you need. Your provider can talk through what fits your situation.
Step 3: Results
Your HIV result is ready the same visit. The rest usually takes 2 to 7 days.
Rapid tests are run here at the clinic. The rest go to an outside lab. Those results come through the patient portal. If a result is positive, the clinic calls you to arrange follow-up.
Step 4: Treatment if you need it
If a test is positive, a provider talks through treatment options and next steps. Bacterial STIs are easier to treat than viral ones. Depending on the infection, treatment is an antibiotic or an antiviral drug.
For many infections, same-day treatment is possible. Some tests need extra lab time before treatment can begin.
Lab and pharmacy under one roof
OIC Inspired has an on-site laboratory where staff collect and label samples. There is also an on-site pharmacy at (407) 214-6773, so you can fill a prescription before you leave.
A note on partners
If you test positive, partners from the last three months to one year need to be told so they can get tested and treated. Ask your provider if you want help with next steps.
